AOD Federal Credit Union recently held a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony to celebrate the opening of their new Oxford office located at 12 Elm Street, Oxford, Alabama. Nearly 100 people including board members, dignitaries, and other community leaders throughout the area attended the event. Speakers included Congressman Mike Rogers, Representative Steve Hurst, Senator Jim Preuitt, Senator Del Marsh, Mayor Leon Smith, and Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce President Sherri Sumners.
Congressman Mike Rogers spoke about his personal history with AOD Federal Credit Union revealing that his first car loan was with AODFCU. He then went on to discuss the importance of credit unions saying, “Because of the terrible financial circumstance we have in our country, a lot of the banks are being overregulated…and they’re scared to death to lend money. I’ve heard countless times from the local business people that if it weren’t for credit unions, they wouldn’t be borrowing any money right now.” The congressman also applauded AODFCU for making a significant investment toward growth, and for making sure that people have access to capitol in their everyday lives.

AOD Federal Credit Union celebrated the grand opening of its new Oxford office on Saturday, April 17th, 2010. From 8 a.m. until noon, members were invited for a personal introduction to the new office and were taken in small groups for private tours throughout the entire building and provided with several promotional items. The excitement during the event was aided by a live radio remote and the buzz surrounding AODFCU’s money booth in which thirteen lucky individuals won over $500.00.
Saturday’s grand opening event was preceded by a week long celebration, starting on April 12th, when members could enter drawings to win a carnival cruise, one of two children’s BMX bicycles, or be one of six luck winners to take home one day’s dividend on one million dollars. On Monday, April 19th, members Bobbie Sparks and Larry Sprinkle Sr. drew the names of the prize winners at the Oxford office.
Brandon Johnson was excited to win the carnival cruise and expressed his intentions to the credit union saying, “I plan on taking along my girlfriend.” The BMX bike winners were Ken Moore and Charlotte Downing. Meanwhile Irish Williams, Billie Waldrep, Katy Barker, Lindsey Schugars, Helen Taylor, and Eddie Dempsey took home one day’s dividend on one million dollars.
AODFCU is committed to making a difference in peoples’ lives, and supports local organizations which provide for the health, education, and welfare needs of both members and potential members. Therefore, during the grand opening week, AODFCU kicked off a non-perishable food drive at all of its offices to benefit The All Saints Interfaith Center of Concern, which provides help to the poor in Calhoun County.
